So you said 'I will marry you' and now you are faced
with the daunting task of organising and planning
your ultimate wedding. With so much to know, and so
many wedding options and choices, you are wondering
where you will get the help you need.
Look no further, because we will be with you every
step of the way. We will give you advice and tips
to enable you to ultimately make the choices that
are right for you.
Let's get started.
To help simplify your wedding planning process, we
have split your wedding calendar into 3 parts and
called it 'The Wedding Cycle'. The parts that we are
going to discuss are 'Before your Wedding', 'Your
Wedding', and 'After your Wedding'. Here is how we
will do it.
This is where most of the planning and hard work
will be, but let's start by simplifying the schedule
that lies ahead.
Choosing a Wedding Date and Destination
You will first need to decide on a wedding date,
or at least decide on a time of year or month. You
will also need to decide a destination or venue type,
for example a ceremony venue, reception
venue, marquee, or destination
wedding in an exotic location.
Many brides-to-be base their wedding date and location
on things such as their birthstone, the type of flowers
that may be in season at their chosen time of year
or desired destination, a special anniversary, or
a venue that has personal, nostalgic or some other
meaningful purpose.
The weather will play an important role on your wedding
day, and you will want memorable photos with your
bridal party and guests, so pay careful attention
to the time-of-year and region.
Another consideration when choosing your venue is
what kind of reception do you want? There are many
options available such as a formal black tie affair
at an upmarket hotel, a 3 course sit down dinner at
a traditional reception centre, a buffet style at
a winery or cocktail wedding which is a more casual
affair. Once you have decided on the type of wedding
you desire, you will be a step closer to finding your
perfect location.
You will also need to start thinking about who will
be in your bridal party, and what sort of wedding
guests you would like to share your wedding day
with. Your wedding guests may be family and close
friends, work associates, old school friends or overseas
guests.
Your bridal
party will most likely be the people closest to
both you and your partner. There is no limit to how
many bridal party members you can have, although 2
bridesmaids and 2 groomsmen, a best man and maid or
matron of honour is the average for a traditional
western wedding.
Your bridal party is extremely important, and they
each have specific roles to play. Try to select bridal
party members that are both fun and reliable for your
big day. Many brides-to-be are overwhelmed on their
wedding day, so your bridal party will need to consist
of people who are supportive.
From time to time issues may arise with your bridal
party members, either personal, family, social, or
simply pressure related, and leave you in the unenviable
position of having to oust a bridal party member.
Treat this as part of the planning process, and try
to resolve any issues quickly so that you can move
forward with your wedding planning.
Similarly, there may be issues with your wedding
guests, so be prepared to make harsh decisions if
necessary. Seating your guests can always be a challenging
job if there are any tricky relationships to consider.
Remember that in the end it is your day and you want
to surround yourself with the people that love and
support you. If you can't rely on people putting issues
aside for the day, then perhaps they shouldn't be
invited.
